  Hospitals face a wide variety of challenges in today’s environment from continuing to attract new patients to controlling costs and ensuring that physicians stay loyal. Accountable Care Organizations have at the center a physician-hospital collaborative delivery system and hospitals have a great opportunity to play a role in developing this nucleus.   Physmark has developed a virtual care center in cyberspace, called the “Cyber Patient Center,” that can be hosted by the hospital to address the ongoing preventive care needs of chronic patients. Conceptually this is an extension of the services currently offered in conventional settings – but it extends these to the Internet without any extra investment in equipment and space.  
 
  Chronic patients are the biggest users of hospital services. By establishing strong interactions with them at an early stage, hospitals can lay the groundwork for profitable and positive future relationships with local employers.  
 
  Hospitals will benefit from increased revenues from lab tests. Once recognized as a center for excellence, attending physicians will benefit from the new influx of patients and the consequent increase in their income. This will increase physician loyalty as well. Of course, with CMS and others also rewarding performance, a good preventive care program can result in increased numbers of Medicare patients.
